1080 in New Zealand part 2

Is there another way that control can happen without using 1080? Why yes, all proven methods. Would they completely get rid of 1080? If applied properly they could, at the very least vastly reducing the need for 1080.

Think about this; DoC (Department of Conservation) spent $57.90 per hectare in 2012/13 poisoning 184,179 hectares of New Zealand with 1080. That gave them a bill of $10,664,000

Now that seems reasonable, till you think about the cost per 1000 hectares. It’s not cheap, not when you consider we have to broadcast indiscriminately a deadly poison across our native bushlands. Areas that are sensitive going by DoC’s own admission.

So for 1000 hectares it costs New Zealanders $57,900 Lets just think about that for a bit….
Why did I mention the number 1000 hectares? To break it down to something simpler. Even in NZ’s hardest, harshest country one good man could easily control that area to at least as low a number as 1080 can do, and quite possibly a lot lower. All without broadcasting 1080… and for the same cost at most.
There is also no reason what so ever that rat and mouse control couldn’t happen at the same time in the same areas as a part of the same price.

The 1000 hectares is in NZ’s most extreme areas, where as in not so remote areas one person can comfortably control a lot more and to at least as low as the result from 1080.
If DoC argue the point that 1080 is better than other methods then why do they keep going back to the same areas time after time? Why do they say other methods don’t work as well as 1080? They do as has been proven by the other big user of 1080, TBFree NZ who also do a lot of non 1080 control work.
Why or how do DoC keep poisoning endangered species? Those same animals they are meant to be looking after.

If they pull out the ‘someone will not do their job properly’ card, well I’m pulling that out on DoC right here right now. The proof? DoC going back to those areas time after time after time….

I personally would be more than comfortable taking on at least 3000 hectares and would be amazed if I couldn’t get it to an acceptable level in an appropriate time frame.
A short time ago I viewed a property for rabbits where the farmer had been told by several experts he needed to 1080. The cost of that would be well over $75 per hectare, that is the minimum for that type of work and often laying costs are on top of that. I went in and did the job, without poison, it cost him $14 a hectare and is well below compliance level. The same block had been 1080 poisoned three years earlier….

1080 in New Zealand

This would be probably one of if not THE most debated subjects in NZ over the last 30-40 years. As a hunter I have people saying the reason I’m against 1080 is it ruins the hunting. That is in fact WRONG.
I learnt long ago that the hunting improves dramatically after a 1080 poison program has happened. In fact there is far more deer around than when I first started hunting them in the 80’s as a young fella. Since then there has been thousands of tonnes of 1080 poured over NZ. Back then there wasn’t many deer at all, it was many months between kills, now I see them on the side of the road like the two seen within 20 metres of a state highway a few weeks ago up Queenstown way. Now it’s how many do I want out of that mob?
So no, as a hunter 1080 does NOT effect the opportunities to go hunting.
What 1080 does do is lays waste in our native bush and the farmland surrounding it.
It kills birds and DoC (Department of Conservation) freely admit that maintaining the theory that they come back stronger. Yeah Right.

Why is so much 1080 used to control possums in NZ? In the 70’s the anti fur trade brigade decided that killing animals for their fur was bad, so very quickly the fur trade died which is what happens when there is no market anymore. With no one possuming the numbers exploded and DoC was into it along with TBFree NZ who joined the party.
Somewhere in there our government decided that we in fact need a company for manufacturing 1080, I don’t know the finer details of it but it is freely known and I’m sure available on the net.
Why did they need to do this? NZ is by far and away the biggest user of 1080 in the world, I’m not talking about a small margin here. We use something like 80-90% of the worlds consumption. Should this one fact alone not have alarm bells screaming???

Then when you start actually talking with DoC’s own staff you learn that there is a lot of descent regarding 1080 and it’s use. WHY??? Some of those on the ground for DoC and even into middle management are very much against it. WHY??

Are DoC and TBFree using 1080 properly? No. There is many reasons I say this but one that stands out is

How the hell can you get any idea of whether an area even needs control, never mind knowing if the control actually worked without knowing this? Seriously. Even in primary school we learnt the only way to get a result is to know what is going on before, during and after. I doubt they even bother teaching this in science degrees at university it is so basic. But DoC don’t. Are you fucking serious? How do you know if a control program has been effective???

1080 for them is the be all – end all instead of having proper control programs in place. Poisoning every three or so years is not a prudent method, instead it’s a cycle that proves mismanagement. A proper program has ongoing work happening regularly. It’s called a pest management plan and is known as a standard procedure in pest control circles. We do it with rabbit control, it’s done in some areas with deer, it’s not a new thing.
Just last year (2014) we heard a mast** year was forecast and how they needed to lay 1080 everywhere in order to stop a rat/mouse plague. The mast never happened, or at least it was NOTHING like the predictions they said. So did we (they) waste a heap of time and money and poisoned our back country yet again for nothing?

Cost of Parliament

This has had me thinking for some time, just what are we spending a day to run the operation that quit frankly is a fucking joke. Go watch question time on parliament TV for ten minutes and see how it is run, it will be worth it just to educate yourselves on what a circus we are paying top dollar for.
So I wrote parliament services and asked…
“How much does parliament cost to run per day, per hour, per year EVERYTHING included?
MP wages the lot.”

It seems my question wasn’t clear enough though going by the reply as a few thing’s were left off.

This cost is based on the total voted appropriations for the Parliamentary Service and Office of the Clerk. It includes the salaries for all MPs who are not part of the executive. It excludes all Ministerial salaries, Ministerial Services, DPMC, PCO costs (as they are considered governmental or executive agencies).

Hopefully this is of some use to you.”

Now the thing that jumped out is they worked this out over 24 hours a day 365 days of the year.  But parliament doesn’t sit for those hours.  
I also note there has been a rise of near enough to $2000 per hour since last year. Why? It seems rather extreme for twelve months. That must be around 10%.
I also don’t know if this includes travel expenses for parliamentarians and their associated hangers on or costs of all their electorate offices etc.
Is all their free travel after they retire included?
Is all their retirement packages included? After all they are extremely good, or should I say WE are extremely good to them.

THEN IT GETS MORE INTERESTING
After asking yet again for the total cost I got this back …

Now so far no one can tell me if that includes retirement packages. Wait, WHAT? Yes I’m fucking serious.

Otherwise I would assume retirement packages is aprt of the ongoing cost of these agencies.” That is from Parliamentary services (whom I will say have been good to deal with).

Then you go watch question time and think to yourself “WE ARE PAYING FOR THIS FUCKING SHAMBLES”
We are paying for them to hock OUR assets off cheap.
We are paying for john key to stand there and make pathetic jokes.
We are suffering because of these wankers and all they do is joke and blame others for their fucking mess.
Remember that number. $311,437,000 per year.
Think about that, Panda bears and ponytails do NOT change this fact.
Think about the fact TPPA is hidden from us behind a huge wall of bullshit. WHY???

Dairy Shambles

A few facts about the dairy situation in NZ.

Cow chasers tend to badly over stock, creating a lot of cost by doing this. IE: pouring fert on at huge rates to get that grass growing, when if stock levels were managed properly they wouldn’t need anywhere near those amounts of grass or cows.
They only think about cows, well grass then cows. When if they were thinking properly they would also be finishing units for lambs. Having a mob of lambs following the cows to clean up paddocks,  turn over every six weeks at 20-30% profit, but instead, and this is how stupid (to harsh?) they are, they pay someone to go through and mow those same paddocks with a tractor.   NOTE for the townies; cows like a long lick of grass where as sheep prefer something a bit shorter. But they mow the paddocks to get better grass growth.

Now the water, which seems to hardly get a mention, the amount of water they require to run these cow farms is huge.   In town now there is water metres and townies are paying by the litre.  The councils already own all the supply services which have been paid for and maintained by said rate payers.   What do the cow chasers pay?

Sustainable farming it’s called, the way dairy is being run it’s not. In fact it’s not even close. At the top of the food chain in fonterra you ten + people being paid $1 million PLUS.  Now let that sink in………then ask yourself how did they let an over supply happen?   All those mill dollar plus people didn’t see this coming?  REALLY???   ARE YOU FUCKING SHITTING ME?

By the way, if us rabbiters knew the Russian market was disappearing because of the yank embargo over 12 months ago why didn’t fonterra?   Pardon?  The silence is deafening.

If I was a cow chaser I would be wanting to know when the heads would roll in the boardroom.

WTF New Zealand

Seriously, what the hell is going on in this country?                                                       Our government buying sheep off someone, flying them to Saudi Arabia then gifting them back to the same person after outfitting a farm for them over in Saudi.  Are you fucking kidding me?   At the same time the same pricks are trying to force social bonds onto us.   All the while trying to force TPPA and TiSA through as well. Go online and try to find one good thing about any of this.

But it doesn’t stop our leaders who are nothing but a bunch of liars trying to push it all on us.
Then one of the idiots, in fact a head idiot hasn’t had a memo in the last 12 months telling him how global warming will effect NZ financially.  So obviously it won’t because no memo.
Per head of capita we send three times more on the ground forces BACK to Iraq than even the yanks, four times more than the Aussies. Very sensible. Going back into a place to partake in a war that should NOT have happened and was in fact illegal.
